FAQ's and general info about the used machinery market and what have in STOCK
Machinery dealers throughout the country work very closely together. The best example I can give is that of the Real Estate Market in the sense that one real estate agent has a "listing" (a home for sale) but yet another completely different Real Estate agent can sell the home and receive a commission. Two completely different dealers, not related at all to each other. Yet both get credited for the sale, one has the buyer, one has the seller of the equipment. The Used Machinery Industry is 100% totally about NETWORKING. If a used machinery dealers networking skills are good and up to par, there is no limit on the amount of machines they have access to. A single dealer in essence has access to just about every machine tool available on the market to a sense.
WHY ARE SO MANY MACHINES AVAILABLE ON MANTA'S SITE? The answer is quite simple. Over the past weeks and months when a customer calls in for a quote or hits our website requesting a quote and to find a machine, Manta will find said machine and enter the machine in its DATABASE and quote machine. When it's time to update our WEBSITE all machines IN OUR DATABASE will be exported by category to our website generator. We've kept our WEBSITE SO EXTREMELY easy so as to keep the search as easy as 2, perhaps 3 clicks. We do APOLOGIZE for machines not being available. Having a broad range in the market has it's consequences. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND. LISTING ON OUR SITE ARE NEVER MADE UP OR DUMMY LISTINGS. AT ONE POINT THEY WERE AVAILABLE. However we do have certain keywords that will bring traffic to our site, but if the machine is LISTED IN THE TABLE, it WAS or is available on the market.
WHY AREN'T PRICES SHOWN FOR EVERY MACHINE? We've gotten that call before from a few "angry" customers before (and it's always LOVELY to speak with someone with a chip on their shoulder.. ) wondering why on earth we don't have prices on our website. The only way we can explain it briefly is it would give our competition heads up on what we are asking for a machine(s) that we are selling for a manufacturing facility and lets them lower their price a thousand or $500. So right off the bat, it's a loosing battle... Having customers call in requesting prices allows dealers to catagorize customers to what machines they run, use and wants quotes on to better serve them in the future.
WHY ARE SOME MACHINES I FIND ON THE INTERNET ON MANTA'S SITE SOLD??? This is our favorite question. We get this one a lot, sold I'll leave this one in bold letters...... The internet is great, instant data, fast searching, etc. But a website is just that, a page with information on it. When a search engine (like Yahoo, or Google, etc) updates it's listings (other websites) , it usually does that once a months. Some search engines do that 1 every 2 months and so on. So that search engine might be seeing a listing that WAS available 30 days ago, 2 weeks ago, 2 months ago.. So even though you might search for, lets say a Haas VF-1, and it might pull up a listing we have.... That listing might be 30 days old and that company who had the machine for sale might have already sold it. The BEST way would be to navigate the site from the home page. That way that leaves out the search engine.. Did I confuse anyone yet? LOL!! What we have been doing lately is putting the word "SOLD" and leaving the machine up, this keeps the search engines from finding broken links.. Keeping traffic to our site. WITH THE MARKET WHITE HOT JUST ABOUT EVERY WEBSITE IS OUT OF DATE, BEING THE MACHINES ARE MOSTLY SOLD. IN THIS MARKET IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP A DATABASE UP TO DATE. KEEPING A DATABASE UP TO DATE, ENTERING , LOCATING, FINDING, NEGOTIATING, ETC, ETC MACHINERY IS ACTUALLY THE HARDEST AND MOST DIFFICULT PART OF SELLING MACHINERY. Quoting and negotiating once a customer wants a machine is actually the easiest part.
Sometimes we even get a MAD DEALER calling us, wondering how we are able to list so many machines. Well to put it bluntly to those dealers. Get out of the STONE AGE and into the information age. We're sorry we do not do business like you and only sell perhaps 1 machine a month and try and make 20,000 off of that one machine. This is 2008, it's the internet, and people deserve to know what's on the market. So what if I list a machine I do not own (bank machine, mfg'ing facility machine, off lease machine), you do that same thing an please don't tell me you've never brokered a machine before in your life. LOL!!! puuuuleeeeeease.. ;-)
WHY IS THE WEBSITE DESIGNED THE WAY IT IS? Frames, pages to fill out, animations, etc slow down websites and actually HURT website rankings VERY MUCH. And we all know website rankings are they key to an online business.. Our website is designed to get traffic to come TO MANTA Machinery's website and keep it here.
WE MANAGE , DESIGN AND UPDATE OUR OWN WEBSITE...so we're pretty busy here.
I’ll wager that almost MOST of the machines that are sold in the market are brokered. Not one dealer, nor even a dozen dealers can have every type of machine to service the 2,000,000 job shops and manufacturers throughout the U.S. and not to mention North America, South America, Latin America, etc.. Even llllaaaarrrrgggeee stocking dealers cannot have or handle the inventory to even come remotely close to cover the needs of the individual companies needing used machinery. This is when brokering comes in and is very powerful actually to the "end user" (person buying the machine) The dealer who doesn’t have the machine will call his "circle" of dealers he’s familiar in dealing with and completely trusts. Even if that other dealer doesn’t have the machine, perhaps they know of one in a plant, from a financial institution or even from ANOTHER stocking dealer. Some deals even have 3, 4, or even 5 other dealers involved in it unbeknownst to the "end user" buying the machine.
This is where the power of the broker comes in and makes things much simpler in the purchase of the machinery. The broker will sift through the perhaps 20 to 30 to 40 quotes sitting on the desk of the person buying the machine instead of the buyer taking time to talking or calling the NUMEROUS dealers it would take to find said machine.
A broker automatically gets quite a large discount in machinery for resale for their customers. So whether if the machine isn’t owned BY the broker, it’s the SAME price to the end-user, sometimes even LESS. Brokers work in the same way an automotive insurance broker will work, making life much easier rather than calling 20 different insurers, etc.
A fatal mistake "end users" continually make is creating an "Artificial Market" for the machine they perhaps want to purchase……
Case in point #1. Manta has REPEATEDLY had customers call up for, lets say for example a Mazak Quick Turn 20, 1998, 12 Station turret a MUST. The end user quickly calls up 10 different dealers asking for the same request. 10 DIFFERENT dealers will be looking for the same machine. Each dealer in time WILL find the machine. The person having the machine, dealer, bank, or even manufacturers floor will get a FLOOD of calls over a period of time, 24 hours, 2 days, 1 week, etc. and think he’s got 10 different people wanting this machine so he keeps his price or even RAISES it. ALL THIS, WHEN ONLY ONE PERSON IS LOOKING FOR SAID MACHINE. Please don’t laugh, this happens on a daily basis. There’s nothing I can do about it and when I mention to end users "don’t try to call too many people" they think I only say that for my best interests. If you don’t buy a machine from Manta Machinery, all we ask is that you please give us the opportunity to quote you next time if we couldn’t find or have the machinery at the time you were last searching.
Manta Machinery has grown and been a success in the 12+ years it has been in business. We can only thank our customers and our long time repeat customers that keep coming back knowing that they are helping a small United States company thrive and slowly grow, living the American Dream. We’ve started off small, only brokering machinery to stocking machinery now in the last couple of years. Some of the machines we’ve had in stock only in this last 12 MONTHS have been: (to name a few…)
This is only to name a few and we are actively buying machines for resale.
About the Owner:
Gerald Heddleson is owner and President of Manta Machinery Sales. I'm 36 years old.--y.
I enjoy anything to do with cars, love to fish, boat, sports, weight train and also LOVE my two Great Danes...Roman and TANK. I originally joined the work force by receiving a diploma in Engineering and Computer Aided Drafting Services and Design. After Approx 8 years I found out that it generally was a dead end job and I desperately tried to find my niche in the business world. A very good friend of mine and very successful person owned a used machinery company at the time called T.R.L. The owner, Tom Lester, owned a traveling softball team that won many national tournaments and even played in the World Nationals in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This event was televised on ESPN too!! (with yours truly leading the team with HR's and batting average, thank you , thank you..hah hah). I asked him for a job and after him hiring many salespersons that didn't work out he was very reluctant to hire me as expected. After my first sale to gain confidence, I found selling to be my niche so desperately sought after and my new career choice. Selling became natural and talking to people and befriending them became an added bonus of the trade. Over the years TRL split up and many of the employees started their own businesses after the idea of Net List died a quick death. Starting my own business was a leap of faith. Recently just getting married and bills stacking up I made my first few sales immediately and that gave me the confidence to continue on and that was nearly 10 years ago! I've made my circle of contacts and made some very trustworthy friends in the business and customers I owe my success to. I would like to publicly thank them and they know who they are. I've continued to grow from just brokering machinery to owning over millions of dollars of inventory and selling machinery to customers in the United States, Mexico, South America, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Other Hobbies include Weight Lifting, Motor Cycles and Sport scars. Recently I took my 1998 Dodge Viper GTS (Supercharged) and my first time at the track EVER, ran a 10.3 at ALMOST 140MPH on STREET TIRES. This is my daily driver. More modifications to come. Good old' American Muscle. A website I frequent and I'm a member is www.viperclub.org and www.viperalley.com (not for the thin skinned. lots of small talk. for FUN of course..) We' also just bought a 2006 Black Convertible Dodge Viper. That Makes TWO NOW! If you're a car lover, ask for photos and LETS TALK CARS.. We've also got a few Suzuki Sport Bikes, .. We've got 1 2005 GSX-1300R Hayabusa, one GSXR-600 Anniversary Edition, 2006, and finally my FAVORITE and newest purchase, a 2006 Suzuki GSXR-1000 !!! This baby dyno's at 160 REAR WHEEL HP with approx 370 lbs total weight. It's unreal!! But my all time favorite is my 1998 Red / White Dodge Viper. it's the bike killer!!! It's got nearly 1000 HP and pushes over 800 HP to the rear wheels and the acceleration is simply sick. I'd love to share photos and talk cars, .... just ask!!!! Sorry if I bored you.. ;-)
So when you purchase from Manta Machinery please be assured your helping a small company grow and fulfilling the American Dream...........
Look for us in the future also, we've got BIG plans.. I've written this to keep things personal and to publicly thank my past customers, present customers and future customers.....
Sorry if I bored you!
Very Sincerely,
Gerald Heddleson
